In Europe, incinerators are right there in the middle of some of the ritziest neighbourhoods. Most European countries even have landfill bans. Back in the United States, things are a little more dire. China doesn't want our plastic. We're using more and more of it every day. Only 9% of it is getting recycled,. And then people are scared of incineration. But who can blame them? Europe is burning things out in the open. We're mostly doing it in poor neighborhoods and communities of color. What's left is a choice with no easy answer.
