Sutcliffe's First Trial
Peter Sutcliffe was charged with 13 counts of murder and seven counts of attempted murder. He pleaded guilty, but on the grounds of diminished responsibility. The judge's conclusion was to have a second trial, this time with a jury. On the 22nd of May, 1981, the jury made their decision,. They deliberated for seven hours, and returned with the majority verdict, 10 votes to two.
