I could see at least two different arguments for why people should try to focus a lot more. One of them basically just says, well, look, if you try to do too many things, you're going to water down your ability to do any of them. The other perspective is a sort of more like a power law perspective and it's both totally valid. I think that one of the things that is so interesting about what goes wrong with a lot of conventional optimization is that it takes you further away from getting around to those things.
