I think if we are to try and defend Orwell's, you know, the way he portrays the proles, you could see it as part of his critique of kind of apathy and the narco-tization. They have chosen to just be infantilized, just to be sort of fed these lies, and they're going along with it. In some ways Orwell is trying to sort of make a point about how, if we just apathetic, we can end up losing our freedom without,. We'll never even realize it's happened to us. But I agree, making 85% of the population fall into that category seems like a massive hole in the book.
