The War on Texas
In March 1845, Congress voted to approve the annexation of Texas. President Polk ordered General Zachary Taylor to stand vigil over the Rio Grande. U.S. received intelligence that a Mexican military force had crossed the Rio Grande in 1846. 11 Americans were ambushed and killed at Rancho de Caracios; one wounded soldier escaped.
