I think we're all sort of pattern making creatures. So it is kind of, I mean, I think writing a novel is a spiritual exercise. There's a certain point in the writing where the novel begins to give back to you and patterns that you hadn't planned emerge. And so you kind of follow them as much as you pose upon them.
