I thought that Mark was talking about the internal tension between the strictures. Instead of exposing itself to this failure, the style of the great work has always negated itself. It leaves a lot of room for interpretation. So I think Wes' interpretation and my interpretation both work perfectly well. There's probably another treatise that makes this a lot more clear.
