The gas industry was testing out some of the defensive tactics it would ultimately use to fight electrification. It's having a major resurgente right now, especially as the industry uses russia's recent invasion of ukraine to justify pushing electrification off even longer. Instead, they're pushing to build out new gas impa structure that they'll be fighting to keep for decades to come.
