The Marines learned they needed to instead use a tactic called cover and movement, which is still something that we practice in the infantry today. The lead unit fires while the rear unit stands up, gains ground, and then hits the deck,. And then they swap positions. You cover each other. That method of cover and movement was used by the third battalion, fifth Marines and third battalion, six Marines.
