The Rise and Fall of Thomas Aquinas
Thomas Aquinas was among the first to grapple systematically with Aristotle's works. He wove ideas from previous medieval thought, especially themes from Augustine and Neo-Platonism. Another pioneering figure was Anselm of Canterbury best known for his ontological argument for the existence of God. William of Occam and John Burritin are two later thinkers who have risen fastest in recent scholarship.
