The Radial Velocity Technique to Find Planets Around Stars
The technique to find planets around stars by their wobble is called the Radial Velocity Technique. What happens is that when you have a planet orbiting around a star, the gravity of the planet is actually pulling on the star at the same time as it pulls on the planet. And what you get is this wobble so that instead of it's just perfectly the star sitting in place and the planets going around, the two are kind of wobbling around each other. So when astronomers are detecting multiple planets, it does make their lives more complicated because now you have to account for the movements of multiple planets that are all pulling at the star in different ways.
