The Azimzad: A Story of Loss and Trauma

The Azimzad family was part of a larger collective history and sense of belonging. They saw the writing on the wall much earlier than most people in the provinces but they continued to be invested until there was no room for them to invest anymore. It's an existential threat that they were facing as the empire was disappearing because they saw where things are heading. That lost, that real tragedy, that trauma then you're supposed to forget and then work for some imagined idea of a nation state or pan-Arabism. So it's not just the splitting up of countries into different Arab states but we don't talk about their extrication from what they actually belong to which is Istanbul.
