Is It the Exceuse for Anything?

Journalism is theoretically limitless, but there's an excuse for anything. It was a good alibi because we have two different personas: our earnest work persona and then the real version of us that we we reveal partly or never at all to colleagues. As they say, that didn't laugh. They got more honest, i think, as the column progressed. We may be using our work to find deep meaning, or use our work to sort of avoid facing our demons. There's all sorts of possibilities.
