The Politics of Skepticism
Montaigne's apology for Raymond Sobon has almost nothing to say about Christian theology. The politics drew heavily on ancient skepticism, but what they were associated with was not getting swept up in the all or nothing arguments of late 16th century theological politics. They were the pragmatists who tried to make politics organized around principles of safety and security.
