The Importance of Joe Thompson
Joe Thompson was even more important than we knew when we started going down to see him. He was a massively important person, he was the last of a family of Black string band traditions. It had been passed on as a family tradition. They played for the white and the Black Square dances in his area. So it's just to have that connection to the once vast, incredibly influential, super important Black string band tradition is now almost completely gone.
