The Frequency Illusion
The frequency illusion is a phenomenon that occurs when people don't notice how much they say. People tend to use more um and uhm than others, but there are two types: heavy ummers and light ummers. When you're engaged in a conversation with someone, your cognitive effort isn't on the form of their speech; it's on the content of their delivery. The only category where this tipping point starts to tip over is in the very heavy umming and uh in category.
