The Debate Over Money

The idea of primrdial debt is the ultimate nationalist myth. We owe it to the nation that formed us, pay interest in the form of taxes and when it comes time to defend the nation against its enemies, offer to pay it with our lives. This is a great trap of the twentieth century. States created markets. Markets require states. Neither could continue without the other, at least in anything like the forms we would recognize to day.
