The History of Thiolacines in Australia
Thiolacines are thought to have been extinct on mainland Australia for perhaps 2000 years. The population density in Australia is extremely low with only 1.3 human beings per square mile. So there's lots of empty space where thiolacines could be living, especially since they're known to be secretive and to avoid humans. In 2013, Richard Freeman went on an expedition to look for thiolacine encounters that are only around 10 years old at this point in 2023 when we're recording this.
