The story begins in chapter 37 with the dreams and the selling into slavery in egypt. The next thing after that horrible immorality of judah in chapter 38, the very next thing we read about in joseph's story is his incredible uprightness in sexual relations with potifer's wif who tries to seduce him. So i think the ordering of the narrative with the insertion of judah's sexual immorality just before joseph’s staggeringly effective and beautiful sexual morality, is to underline in bright colors the difference between judah's unfaithfulness and JOSEPH's amazing sexual uprightness.
