Is There Any Specific Trigger or Event That Motivated You to Think About Identity Politics?
No particular event in itself it's more that the question of identity and of identity politics has become so central to the way we think of politics. I'm trying to put contemporary debates in a long history and to show where it fits in. There have always been identitarian strands within anti-colonial anti-racist movements from the back to Africa movements in the 19th century,. Garvey's them in the early 20th century, palapricism, and Negritude and so on. But those have largely were marginal there were moments at which they became major issues and attracted attention but largely were marginal.
