Lucy parsons was a woman of color who carved a place for herself in a movement that was just overwhelmingly white and male. She became involved with the communist party, although she didn't formally join the party until 19 39. By this point, chicago's black population was significantly larger than it had been when parsons first arrived. On march seventh, 19 forty two, a fire started in her home,. She was killed in this fire, and george markstall died while he was trying to save her.
