I get a little frustrated when proponents of the quote unquote Asia First Policy try to relate this story purely in terms of GDP. It's very difficult even to put autocracies in Asia in the same basket because each is very different. I think we've under invested heavily in our information and knowledge about Asia. We don't teach about other people's culture. Who should we be talking to? How do we show what are our values with our alliances?
