Were Not We Remember How We Remember?
Hugh strawleys is a professor of the history of war at alsos college in oxford. He says we need to remember that, not least because we're not remembering,. but also because what it means is that we're requiring memorials to carry a quite disproportionate burden in our understanding of this war. The first world war is passing beyond the memory of men and women. And over time, as the landscapes of the front lines are shaped and re shaped, perhaps it becomes a matter for the archaeologist as well.
