The Need for Infused Moral Virtue
The end or good to which man is ordered by grace and Thomas often describes or distinguishes in terms of infused virtue. Infused virtue can seem peculiar even oxymoronic, especially if one comes in thinking of virtue chiefly as a good habit associated with habituation. It's tempting then to suppose as some have done that St. Thomas is just not using the word virtue this way when it comes to infused virtue. Perhaps he's really thinking in terms of the Augustinian definition of virtue leaving Aristotle behind. I don't want to deny that there's some truth to that.
