The Colossus of Rhodes
Rhodes is a bigish Greek island in the southeast Aegean Sea. In antiquity, it was known as a warm sunny island. Zeus offered to redivide up the world, but Helios saw an island appearing in the south and asked for it. It's also susceptible to earthquakes, which come into the story of the Colossus quite a bit.
