The Importance of Anti-Craving Medication in the Emergency Department

The evidence is pretty good that they work at curbing the drinking and even helping them quit. Less than 9% of patients with alcohol use disorder are ever offered an anti-craving medication. The starting dose of NAA Trexone is 50mg once a day. It has a number needed to treat of only 12 to prevent returning to heavy drinking and 20 to prevent any drinking whatsoever.
