People don't realize this now, because they look at the Middle East and North Africa as overwhelmingly Muslim. Muslims were a small minority of the region between Iberia and the Indian subcontinent. And so that, these are the kind of political and intellectual factors that catalyze the rise of what I call dialectical theology.
