The Promise of God's Promise
In psalm two, the same complex of themes is developed with a focus on the roll of the davidic anointed in working out god's purpose for history. When the lord sees counterfeit kings craftily scheming against his son and his sanctuary, he bids us join in hope that an heir of David will finish the work adam began. The hoped for ruler of israel is a new adam, a priestly king. And when he finally takes possession of the ends of the earth and dashes rebellious nations, he'll do so as the royal priest who crushes the serpent seed to subdues the eart. Does that image sound familiar to you?
