"There's no sensible world in which I deserve as much grant money as someone who is trying to build a gravitational wave observatory or a giant particle accelerator," he says. "We have to far too often apply for money and justify it, especially as theorists where you're supposed to propose ... three-year plan of what you're going to do for the next three years." He adds that there are some people who just every single year, they're doing great science. 'Just give them money,' he writes.
