The arrival of television as a mode of mass communication, created a new field of of basically military psychological conflict. The development of electric age communications tools through the mid twentieth century was really driven by military research and development. As that process unfolded, americans started to become alienated from their technologies. And they ceased to be tinkerers andn ters, and they turned into sort of passive consumers.
