The Importance of Intuition in Sentience

I feel like appealing to intuitions there is very difficult as well. We accept that other animals are, in many cases, much more sensory-driven creatures than we are. The fact that we have evolved a capability for language and rationality means that we don't need to rely so much on our crude physical sensations to help us to survive. But also, this doesn't seem relevant to me to the question of sentience.
