The US and China Are Not Talking to Each Other, but They're Talking to Everybody Else
I think Xi Jinping is a far more authoritarian, autocratic leader than his predecessors. He has explicitly said he wants to reincorporate Taiwan by force if necessary whilst he's president. So hawks are not imagining China's challenge to the international system. We need a strategy for dealing with it that doesn't involve continually being on the brink of war or at least at the risk of fate of miscommunication of accident.
