The essay began with the destruction of monument avenue in in richmond, virginia. The piece represented for me that moment when hundreds of confederate monuments were destroyed. I there's a real disinclination to think about the past itself as a moment of struggle When reactionary regimes were tockled and popular did come together. And it's this, it's, you no paradoxcall, even as is, your tearing down monuments to a sort of repressive and antagonistic past.
