The Russian State Philosophy of Media - Freedom Over Censorship

I understand that if you want to criticize the American empire and the globalists, you've got to find a platform outside of the system to do that. But we hear a lot about Russian gangsterism. You might see an American journalist who's critical of the state banned online, but you might see a Russian journalistcritical of the state thrown off a building. I guess I just want a better understanding of the Russian state philosophy around media.
