It's Not the Invention That Changes the World

Change doesn't spring out of invention, it has to meet a need. The classic example I cite in the book is the compass. It's not until the 16th century that the compass really comes into its own. So if not a case of the invention changing the world, it's the need actually takes on the invention and then does something with it.
