i was born and raised in harlem and the south brank in new york. My mother wisely did for this only child, and for this single mother on wealthier,. She joined a fascinating little church in harlem called victory tabernacle - it was an offshoot from the seventh day advantis denomination. The church had just recently become an independent one. These were magnificent women and men, a mixture of a working class, professional class, all kinds of class. And they were people who were very, very serious about religion. So that's where i would mark my own best and deepest religious beginnings, in the love of this small, maybe a hundred member church community that still exists...
