In 1862, Moses has published Roman Jerusalem. In 1882, Leo Pinsker printed auto emancipation. These were the first Zionist books that were printed before Hertzel. His Jews had absolutely no interest in Zionism in creating a Jewish state. The idea that the Jews are a nationality because they are not was looked at as heretical.
