Jolie's mother died from breast cancer at the age of 56 after a decade long struggle with the disease. As a result, jo lee was tested to see if she carried the b r c a gean mutation. Her test showed that jo lee had about an 87 % risk of developing brass cancer and a 50 % chance of being diagnosed with overian cancer. That's even higher than normal for someone with the br c a gn mutation. The test to detect this mutation is expensive for most people, but in jolie's case, it paid off.
