The Logistics of the Battle for France
James Holland's book follows the battle for France from June 6, 1944. He says he wanted to look at logistics of that campaign and how vast armies functioned. The average army was the size of a small provincial town, 100,000 people or more. And so the sheer kind of bureaucratic logistical efforts required to allow these young men to fight each other is equally extraordinary.
