The Impact of the Ice Bucket Challenge on Medical Research

The ice bucket challenge involved dumping a bucket full of ice and water over a willing victim to raise money for Lou Gehrig's disease or ALS. According to hashtag Giving Tuesday, over $1 billion has been given globally on this day since 2012. Although the money raised for ALS research has done some good, it has not resulted in any dramatic breakthrough in preventing or treating the disease.
