Leonardo's Last Moments at Ambos

Giorgio Vasari is known as the first Italian art historian, and his writing about the Renaissance was pivotal in inspiring artists for centuries to come. In Vasari's book The Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors and Architects, there is a chapter about Leonardo which ends with a description of this fateful scene at Ambos. We learn further about Leonardo's final moments in Ambos from one of his contemporaries, the writer and artist, Giorgio Vasri. It is here that Leonardi's legacy is first cemented in writing as one of the leading figures of the Renaissance.
