The Origins of the Amazon Basin
The Amazon is home to the largest number of uncontacted tribes in the world. Researchers have also discovered the remains of ancient settlements in the Amazon, which date back 10,000 years. The entire Amazon basin only has a population of 26 million people, giving it one of the lowest population densities on Earth. Despite being such a huge navigable river, the Amazon doesn't have as much of an economic impact as most other great rivers because of the land it flows through and the small number of people who live alongside it.
