In some states and cities, when a mother calls the police or child welfare agencies because they themselves have been victimized by violence in the home, their children are taken away from them. Here again, we've got these myths that any mother who would allow herself to be beaten must be a bad mother and therefore the children must be removed. This happens even in cases where the children were not abused by the abuse. And so comparing the experience of many black women that when they call the police to protect them, they themselves get violently beaten or tased or as we see it even shot by police.
