The Contradictions of Nationalist Governments in West Africa
These nationalist governments in West Africa are building links with revolutionary movements in Latin America and invoking the revolutionary legacy of people like Thomas San Cara. Now, before I conclude here, I just want to briefly talk about the contradictions of this because of course, it is true that these governments did not come to power through revolutions. They came to power through coups led by progressive nationalist military leaders. And there is a historical precedent of this, especially on the African continent. One of the most famous revolutionary leaders in the history of Africa, Nasser in Egypt, he came to power as well in a progressive coup in 1952.
