The Difference Between Metaphysical and Subjective Facts in Baseball
Hacking doesn't take this seriously enough to give the kind of response even that you just gave. He just more or less takes it for granted that there are some facts that are metaphysically objective and others that are subjective. In baseball, a strike counts as one out of three steps to getting out. But if you define strike physically, as in the ball is passing over the plate within this space, then like that's an objective physical fact. I think that's very much like what we're doing with the quarks: It explains better than anything else, these theoretical entities.
