The History Channel Is No Better Than the Discovery Channel
Documentary films have long been treated as objective windows into history because viewers feel as if we can see and presumably feel what people in the past saw and felt. Historian Robert Rosenstone explains that documentary films are more problematic than Hollywood films since historians, journalists, and the general public are more trusting of documentary films Because they resemble written history more than feature film. Other documentaries claim to be real, like Venom Hunters on the Discovery Channel. They may contain animal abuse, permit violations, misrepresentation, and other animal welfare violations.
