Alon: Afghanistan is a microcosm of the bigger story, which is that America in the 20 years since 9-11 has really failed to respond to the threat. He says we haven't made the problem an existential one yet, but it's certainly worse than it needs to be. "I mean, it's really a foreign policy disaster," he adds.
