Human Primates - The Type I Error

The safer bet was the Type I error. Push them back, cast them out, even attack and destroy them. Even if I'm wrong, sure. But I pretty much guaranteed my survival and the survival of my genes. Passing down my genetic line. My evolutionary fitness benefited even when I made the mistake. And we can see the utility of dehumanizing and destroying out groups.
