Bonaparte's Plan for the Second Italian Campaign
In the french camp, it was a completely different picture. The soldiers of the revolution had never been so well prepared for a campaign. Bonaparte planned to trap these forces and destroy them. He would use his cavalry to fool the hapsburgs into thinking he was making a direct attack west, east from the french border. If it worked, the austrians would be thrown off balance and probably forced to fight the larger french army on unfavorable terms.
