The world of podcasting has changed incredibly. Back in those days it was a bit like the Wild West because you're right. It's a radio show for the internet but without any gatekeepers and what I mean by that is that if you Sheila wanted to start your podcast in the old days you'd probably have to apply it to the BBC or some approved platform.
